Sotdae is a modeled bird perched on a high wooden pole. As messengers
to the heavens, it is traditionally believed that the birds
convey the people's wishes for prosperity in the new year and
protection from evils. Villagers gather together on lunar January
15th every year to erect these spirit poles in the entrance
of villages and hold village rites.
This emblem of Sotdae is to welcome all delegates and to
express wishes for a successful outcome of ICOM 2004 SEOUL.
