DIGITAL HERITAGE and FUTURE MUSEUM
Introduction
ICOM 2004 in Seoul is being convened at a turning point in
the history of heritage management where the concerns of both
the museums and their relevance to all generations, especially
young people, are challenging the very future of the Museum.
Digital platforms have become a means to access, promote and
manage collections, exhibits, programs and heritage resources.
However, the collections and heritage resources that are ‘born
digital,’ and hence derive their authenticity in the
digital format only, are as yet not adequately addressed by
museums. This one-day concurrent session at ICOM 2004 will
consider this challenge and set the agenda for the future
concerns of ICOM and the museum profession.
Aim
The Digital Heritage Concurrent Session at ICOM 2004 will
address two aspects of the field through:
- Facilitating a clear understanding of the nature and content
of Digital Heritage illustrated through case studies; and
- Consider the way forward for the future of museums and
their relevance integrating Digital Heritage into their
core business
